Sony Xperia R1 Plus Reviews, Price and Specs

Key Features

  • 5.2-inch IPS Display, 720 x 1280 pixels (282ppi)
  • Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 CPU with 2GB / 3GBRAM
  • Android 7.0 (Nougat)
  • 13MP Rear Camera and 8MP Front Camera
  • 16GB / 32GB Storage, up to 256GB memory card
  • 4G LTE (up to 150 Mbps download)
  • 2620 mAh Battery with Fast Charging

The Sony Xperia R1 Plus is a smartphone aimed at those in search of a device ‘loaded with fun,’ according to its maker. Sony Xperia R1 Plus features an HD display and gets power to execute tasks from an octa-core Qualcomm processor. The major difference between the Sony Xperia R1 Plus and the more affordable Xperia R1 is that the former offers 3GB RAM and 32GB built-in storage as against the former’s 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.

The Sony Xperia R1 Plus shows a clean, decent design and uses a 5.2-inch display just like its more affordable sibling, Xperia R1. This has a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Images should look sharp here, but it appears Sony over-hyped this somewhat.

Targets of the Sony Xperia R1 Plus appear to include people who take lots of images with their phones. It packs an ‘amazing’ 13 megapixel rear camera for preserving precious memories. This has 12 modes for better suiting the shots you take to your taste. The Exmor Sony sensor gets the backing of autofocus and LED flash for quality shots.

The Sony Xperia R1 Plus should impress when it comes to selfies, at least on paper. It offers you an 8MP sensor on the front. This has wide-angle lens for capturing more friends in your shots.

Users can expect powerful performance from the Sony Xperia R1 Plus, albeit not the best at this price. It is powered by an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. Sony says you should expect no lag from this chip, but expect stunning graphics.

RAM of 3 GB looks respectable. You get 32 GB of inbuilt storage for keeping your photos, other files and apps. The Sony Xperia R1 Plus boots Android Nougat operating system from factory. There is promise of upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo down the line.

The Sony Xperia R1 Plus features 4G LTE (Cat. 4) support and a reversible USB Type-C port. The affordable Android phone offers other regular connectivity options, such as Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi, as well. Some users may find the battery capacity of 2,620 mAh somewhat on the low side of things, though.

Sony Xperia R1 Plus is targeted at the Indian market and may never be sold in Nigeria or Africa. We currently have no data on pricing and availability for Ghana and Kenya. When available, Sony Xperia R1 Plus Price in Nigeria is expected to range from 83,500 Naira to 125,000 Naira depending on your location in the country.

6 Tips To ChildProof Your SmartPhone

If you have got kids or any young one at home, you know very well that sometimes they are going to want to play with your smartphone. In other situations, you might also want to hand over the device to your child as a distraction. If you do not childproof your phone, your obviously curious kid may exhaust your data or accidentally drop your phone which may damage its screen. So, before you hand over your smartphone, Jumia Travel, shares ways to help keep your device safe.

1. Get a Durable Phone Cases & Pouches

One of the first things you should do is to invest in a durable case to keep your phone safe from accidental drops. Look for a case that is water resistant, in case your phone falls in water and make sure it covers all part of the phone’s body.

2. Lock Your Screen

The easiest way to help protect your child accessing anything on your phone is to lock your screen with a passcode, touch ID, or swipe ID. As an additional security measure it’s worth changing your passcode every few months.

To set a passcode on an iPhone

Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. You will see an option to “Add a Fingerprint” for a touch ID, and options to add or change a four-digit numerical code that can also be used to unlock your screen.

To set a passcode on an Android

Go to Settings > Lock Screen. You will have the option to choose either a code or pattern passcode. For the pattern option, you have to connect at least four dots for it to be approved.

To Set a Passcode on a Windows Phone

Go to Settings > Lock Screen > Password. Slide the Password bar to “on,” and enter your password in the “New password” field. Reenter it in the “Confirm password” field, and click “done.”

3. Password-Protect Google Play

In order to ensure you are not charged for apps, games, movies and books your child wants or mistakenly buys, you should password-protect access to the Google Play store. To protect yourself, go to settings in the Google Play app. Check the box next to the password option in order to use a password to restrict purchases.

4. Set Android/iPhone Parental Controls

Android tablets running 4.2, 4.3, or 4.4 allow you to create separate user accounts for each member of your family. In Android 4.3, you can create a “restricted” profile, which allows you to control permissions.

Settings – Scroll down to and select Users. Tap “Add user or profile” to create either a normal User profile, or a Restricted profile. Tap on Restricted profile when setting up an account for your child. You’ll see a list of apps installed on your device, with on/off toggles to the side. By default, the restricted profile is unable to access any apps installed on your phone. Go through the list and turn on the apps and browsers you are comfortable with your child accessing.

To set parental controls for purchasing apps on your Android:

Go to Google Play – tap the Play store icon in the top left corner to open the menu.

Settings – Content Filtering (under User Controls). You can choose the maturity rating you’d like to set for your child, and add a passcode to prevent your child from changing it. Next, go to Settings – require password for purchases, and click on “For all purchases.” This will prevent your child from downloading any apps without your knowledge.

iPhone Parental Controls

iPhones have parental controls that enable you to restrict any built-in apps (including YouTube, camera, and iTunes), disable app downloads and deletions, block content such as third-party apps and websites, and disable functions such as location services and account settings. Parental controls are passcode protected, so your child cannot change them.

To Set Parental Controls on your iPhone

Settings > General > Restrictions. You’ll find a list of all the apps and functions on your phone, so you can decide which you’d like to block.

Windows Phones Parental Controls

Windows Phones have a feature called “Kid’s Corner” that allows you to create a separate user profile for your child, and decide what games, apps, videos, and music he has access to.

To Set up Kid’s Corner

Go to Settings and click on Kid’s Corner. From there, you can add kid-friendly content to your child’s profile and block any apps or websites that are inappropriate.

5. Pin the screen

The latest Android running Android 5.0 “Lollipop” or better make it easy to lock—or as Google puts it, “pin”—an app onto the screen, disabling the Home, Back and multitasking controls until you unpin.

First, launch the app, then tap the multitasking button (i. e the “Overview” button) in the bottom-right corner of the screen, when the multitasking screen appears, scroll down to the app’s floating card, then tap the green button with the pin.

When you’re ready to “unpin” the app, tap and hold the Back and Overview buttons at the same time.

You can set your Android device to require an unlock code to unpin an app.

Tap Settings > Security > Screen pinning, then enable the Ask for unlock pattern before unpinning setting.

6. Disable Mobile Data

Does your child really need mobile data? If he/she don’t need mobile data, you should simply switch off. This is will help save your data and prevent any downloads.

WhatsApp ‘Delete For Everyone’ Let’s You Revoke Sent Message

WhatsApp’s much-anticipated “Unsend” feature is finally ready.

It’s been in development for months, but has now started rolling out to users.

The feature, which is officially called “Delete for Everyone” has also been widely referred to as “Recall” and “Revoke”.

It lets you unsend messages, making them completely disappear from a conversation. They’ll be hidden from both yourself and the other people in the chat.

However, both you and your recipient need to be using the latest version of WhatsApp, and it only works for messages you’ve sent within the last seven minute.

Once that period of time has passed, your message is there to stay.

Delete for Everyone work on all types of messages, including text, images, videos, GIFs and documents.

To unsend a message, simply highlight it by tapping and holding the line of text, select Delete from the menu and hit the Delete for Everyone option.

“This is particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake,” explains WhatsApp in a FAQ.

“Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with ‘This message was deleted’ in your recipients’ chats. Similarly, if you see ‘This message was deleted’ in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone.”

WhatsApp says you will not be notified if Delete for Everyone hasn’t worked.

It also warns that, even if the feature does work successfully, there’s a chance the person you’ve been chatting to may have already seen the message before you decided to revoke it.

According to WABetaInfo, the rollout of Delete for Everyone is proving “very slow”, so don’t worry if you’re unable to make use of it quite yet.

Xiaomi Mi A1 (5X) Features and Specification

The Xiaomi Mi 5X is well equipped to handle Android and its apps, and while the Snapdragon 625 may not be the most powerful midrange chipset, it was chosen for a reason. The performance is balanced, the processor is lightweight on the battery thanks to the high-end 14nm manufacturing process, and everything runs very cool even under peak load. MIUI runs smooth and lag-free, and the games we tried were handled pretty well, too.

Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with the same dual-camera we saw on the Mi 6, sans the OIS and bright lens. The regular wide-angle camera on the 5X has a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with 27mm f/2.2 lens and 1.2µm big pixels. The 12MP telephoto sensor’s maker is still unknown, but its specs sound familiar – 1.00µm pixels and 56mm f/2.6 lens, close to what Apple used for the iPhone 7 Plus telephoto cam.

Key features

  • Display-Size – 5.5 Inch
  • Camera-Resolution – Dual 12 MP
  • RAM – 4 GB
  • ROM – 64 G

Apple iPhone 8 Plus Features and Specification

The iPhone 8 Plus comes with a dual 12MP rear camera. The wide-angle sensor has an aperture of f/1.8 and the telephoto has an aperture of f/2.8. It works in a very similar way to the iPhone 7 Plus, but there are a few upgrades.

Sadly, the screen on the iPhone 8 Plus is very similar to the one on the iPhone 7 Plus. Well, we say ‘sadly’, but the screen from last year (a Full HD 5.5-inch display) was clear and crisp, and didn’t rob the battery of power just to pack in the pixels.

iPhone 8 Plus

The new iPhone 8 Plus is one of the first phones from Apple to come with a glass back. Apple claims it’s the most durable glass ever in a smartphone, but it didn’t reveal what glass protection it uses.

Apart from the glass back, the design language on the iPhone 8 Plus is similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. There’s no headphone jack, but we haven’t found out yet if the new phone is any thinner.

Elephone S8 Review: An All Screen Quad HD Resolution

Elephone S8 specs may have less RAM than higher versions of Mix and Alpha, but the Helio X25 is so much faster and better, that it really doesn’t matter. In addition, the Elephone S8 display is made by Sharp and is vastly superior to cheaper Mix and Alpha ones. Besides that, the single 22MP Sony IMX230 camera absolutely destroys those cheap dual-cameras from Doogee and Maze.

The Elephone S8 is running a newer version of Android 7.1.1, however, S8 does have a few things missing like a headphone jack and LED notification light.

Elephone S8 supports LTE Bands – 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,17,20,26,28,38,39,40 and 41. To put it simply, Elephone S8 4G/LTE works in Europe, Asia, USA, Canada and South America without issues.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Concept Features The ‘iPhone X’ Top ‘Notch’

Samsung’s rival Apple who has just unveiled its brand new iPhone X with a bezel-less display and a top ‘notch.’ One concept designer tried to imagine a similar notch on Samsung’s next-gen flagship. This new Samsung Galaxy S9 concept highlights the all-screen front and the top cutout.

The iPhone X’s front design looks beautiful, though some believe it’s an odd design choice. The latest Samsung Galaxy S9 concept comes from the YouTube channel DBS Designing. Samsung’s current flagship phones have no side bezels, though there are still slim bezels at the top and bottom. The concept has an all display with virtual navigation buttons at the bottom.

At the very top of the front panel, you’ll notice a slim cutout that houses the front camera, ear speaker, the iris scanner, and other sensors. This Samsung Galaxy S9 concept might have been inspired by the iPhone X’s top notch, but it looks far more sleek and beautiful than Apple’s phone. The iPhone X cutout is more pronounced than the one you see in DBS Designing’s concept.

Icons for time and date can be seen on the left side of the notch. Other icons such as WiFi, cellular strength, and battery are on the right side. The concept phone features a loudspeaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. The designers believe Samsung won’t ditch the 3.5mm audio jack even though its rivals such as Apple have got rid of the feature.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 concept phone is made out of glass and metal, similar to its predecessor. DBS Designing imagined the device featuring an Infinity OLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the display. That is unlikely to be true because Samsung is still struggling with the fingerprint scanner. The feature is expected to debut with the Galaxy Note 9 in the second half of 2018.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 concept runs Android 8.1 Oreo. It is powered by 6GB RAM and packs 128GB of internal storage. There is also a 3,600mAh battery. The device would run Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 845 SoC. Samsung has signed a deal with Qualcomm that makes it the first smartphone vendor to get the initial supply of Snapdragon 845.

DBS Designing imagines the S9 with a dual camera system on the back. It consists of two 18-megapixel sensors. The device also has a dual camera setup on the front, which includes two 13-megapixel snappers for selfies.

Rumored Specs

According to XDA Developers, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will have model numbers SM-G960 and SM-G965. They will retain the 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch screens from their predecessors. However, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus would offer only 4GB RAM and 64GB of base storage, sources told XDA Developers. Of course, Samsung will include a microSD card slot for further memory expansion. Just like Galaxy S8, the S9 will have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently revealed that the Galaxy S9’s dual camera system would be similar to the Galaxy Note 8. It means the setup would consist of a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens, both of which will offer optical image stabilization (OIS) to help you capture high-quality images even in low-light conditions. The telephoto lens allows for 2x optical zoom.

Apple iPhone X Full Specifications and Features

The iPhone X – pronounced iPhone 10 – represents the most radical change to Apple’s design language in the iPhone’s ten year history, as almost the entire face of the phone is now dominated by the display. Save for a small ‘notch’ at the top of the front edge – more on that later – the iPhone X has pretty thin bezels on all sides, though you wouldn’t call it ‘bezel-less’.

This means that the newest, most-expensive iPhone-ever looks nothing like its predecessors, though the overall design is pretty similar to what we’ve seen on a few Android phones, both with and without that notch.
